Would a Coach Turn for You on The Voice?
Blind-audition judging: a recognisable tone inside the first 20 seconds, pitch that never slips, phrasing that is yours, and control under nerves.
What this panel listens for
- A recognisable tone inside the first 15–20 seconds.
- Pitch control: with only audio to judge, intonation slips are fatal.
- Phrasing and interpretation that departs from the record; "a bit safe" does not turn chairs.
- Control under nerves: steady breath, no rushing the tempo.
- Range shown through the chorus, not through stacked runs.
Open call: a 90-second slot — say your name and the song, then sing verse and chorus a cappella, self-accompanied or over a track. The TV blind audition is about 90 seconds with the house band. Minimum age is around 13.
What to sing
Verse and chorus only, with the climax before 60 seconds, in a key where the chorus sits comfortably. Pick a song you can re-phrase. Examples: Jealous (Labrinth), Gravity (Sara Bareilles), Lose Control (Teddy Swims), Tennessee Whiskey.

Why singers use the Audition Readiness Test
Judged like the real panel
Each audition has its own profile: what the casting team or coaches actually listen for, their hard bars, and the phrases they use.
One honest scale
Scores use the same seven-axis rubric as Rate My Singing, so your numbers mean the same thing across every test on the site.
Free, private, repeatable
No signup. Record as many takes as you like, fix the two things that matter, and watch your readiness climb.
Frequently asked questions
Why does tone weigh so much on this test?
Coaches hear nothing but the voice, and the most common reason a chair stays put is "I didn't hear anything that made me turn". A distinctive tone matters as much as pitch here.
How is The Voice Kids judged differently?
Use the separate Voice Kids page. It judges on a child's scale: a lighter tone and smaller range are normal, forced adult-style belting counts against you, and the readiness bar is lower.
What should I record?
30 to 60 seconds of the part of a song that shows you best, a cappella or with a quiet backing track, in a quiet room with the phone about 30 cm from your mouth. Each page suggests what to sing.
Does my age change the verdict?
If you tell us your age band, the judge compares you with what a voice that age can do, and younger singers get a small allowance on the readiness bar. The Voice Kids page is judged on a child's scale by default.
